US1M

March 12

Eleven skippers showed up to compete. Unfortunately Eric Conn had difficulties which kept him from being in many races. Nonetheless it was great seeing him at a regatta again. Good having Pat Stoker back on the water too after a fairly long absence.

Not a bad day for racing but the winds were all over the place making the course challenging for just about everyone. At the end of the day Bob Smith, Chris Hansen and Al Robertson wound up on the podium with their first, second and third place finishes, respectively. Results for the rest of the field are shown below:

Thanks to Pete Kruse for conducting the regatta and to Don Krueger and Gene Graham for their supporting roles.

May 14

Cool, cloudy and windy. Very windy and very unpredictable. Some of the six skippers present figured it out though. Congratulations to Shoe, Bob Smith and Larry Grant for their first, second and third place finishes, respectively.

Thanks to Herb Martin for conducting and Erwin deRoogenbuke for assisting with today's event.

Results for the entire field are shown below.

July 9

The wind was a little strong at times but all in all it was a good day for sailing. There were a greater number of mechanical failures than usual though. Pete lost his rudder servo before finishing the first race. David had his sail servo come loose and the resulting parts shift caused a sheet to be severed. Don had a sheet severed and then missed a couple races due to causes yet identified. He did however still have a respectable ranking and did get some exercise.

Upon entering the results in a spreadsheet an error was found that affected the announced outcome at the pond. Bob McKenzie actually took third place. In fact the Bobs took all the money places. Congratulations to Bobs Smith, Schumacher and the aforementioned McKenzie for their first second and third place finishes.

Thanks to Erwin for conducting today's event and to Don Richtenburg for assisting.

September 11

All in all not a bad day. Particularly when compared to yesterday when southern California had the highly unusual thunderstorms accompanied with hail in several areas. All was not smooth today though, as Pete was forced to retire with electrical problems even before finishing the first race.

Congratulations to Bob Schumacher, Don Frakes and Al Roberston and  their first second and third place finishes.

Thanks to John Cameron for conducting today's event and to Bob McKenzie and Glenn Krumbine for assisting.

November 12

Seven skippers, including Jim Linville, US1M class secretary from Massachusetts, braved the uncertain conditions to participate in the final US1M regatta of the 2011 season. The wind was almost non-existent so after one race we broke for lunch. We waited until almost 1:00 when the regatta was called off because the of the wind continuing to be AWOL. All the while it never rained.
